    • Your First Stream

    You have connected a platform and added the overlay to OBS. Nice work. This page walks you through a quick first-run checklist so everything is ready before you go live.

    Before You Start

    Make sure these two things are done:

    If either is missing, finish those pages first and come back.

    First-Run Checklist

    Work through these in order. Each step takes a minute.

    1. Test an alert

    In the dashboard, open the Alerts widget and use the test button to fire a sample alert. This sends a real alert through the same pipeline your viewers will trigger.

    2. Confirm it appears on the overlay

    Switch to OBS (or the overlay preview) and check that the test alert animates on screen. If you see it, your overlay is wired up correctly. If not, double-check the Browser Source URL on Set Up Your Overlay.

    3. Enable and test Text-to-Speech

    Open the Text-to-Speech widget and use its test button to play a sample message. The test button lets you preview TTS even when the chat command is off, so you can hear how it sounds before anyone uses it.

    4. Enable captions (optional)

    If you want live, translated captions for your viewers, open the Translate widget and turn captions on. This is great for reaching an audience that speaks other languages. Use the preview to confirm captions render on the overlay.

    5. Position your widgets in Appearance

    Open Appearance and drag each widget into place. Arrange alerts, captions, and any other overlays so they sit where you want them on stream.

    6. Go live

    Start your stream as usual. Your widgets activate automatically once you are live.

    A Note on Chat Commands

    Several widgets - TTS, captions, AI, and media - are switched on and off by a chat command rather than a dashboard toggle. The dashboard test and preview buttons let you check each widget even while its command is off, so a quiet test never disrupts your stream. See Commands for the full list and how to use them.
