Audio Issues

If your TTS or alert sounds are not playing on stream, work through this checklist in order. Most silent-audio problems come down to OBS, your system, or a feature that is gated by its chat command.

1. Check your OBS Browser Source

Your overlay audio plays through the OBS Browser Source, so OBS has to be allowed to capture and output it.

  • Open the Browser Source properties and make sure Control audio via OBS (audio monitoring) is enabled.
  • In the OBS Audio Mixer, confirm the Browser Source is not muted and its volume is up.
  • Set the source's audio monitoring to Monitor and Output if you also want to hear it locally.

2. Check your operating system and browser

  • Make sure your system master volume and output device are correct, and the app is not muted in your OS volume mixer.
  • If you test the overlay in a browser tab, some browsers block autoplay audio until you interact with the page. OBS does not have this limitation, so trust the OBS output over a browser preview.

3. For TTS: confirm both switches are on

TTS has two separate enable switches, and both must be on for it to play from chat:

  1. The TTS widget must be enabled.
  2. The TTS chat command (for example !tts) must be enabled in your Commands settings.

The dashboard Test button bypasses the command. So if Test plays sound but chat stays silent, the command is turned off even though the widget is on. Turn the command on in Commands. The same command-as-gate rule applies to Translate, AI, and Media.

4. For alerts: check video vs sound

Video alerts carry their own audio built into the video file. When an alert uses a video, the separate alert sound is disabled so the two do not overlap. If you expected a sound effect but got the video's audio instead, that is working as designed. To use a standalone sound, set the alert to an image or text rather than a video.

Still silent?

If audio is enabled everywhere above and TTS still does not play, the queue or overlay connection may need attention. Refresh the overlay in OBS, then retry.
