Media

The Media widget plays sounds, images, and video clips on your overlay. It can be triggered by chat commands, stream events, or Triggers rules — making it a flexible tool for sound alerts, memes, and crowd reactions.

What Media Can Play

  • Audio files.mp3, .wav files (sound effects, jingles, voice lines)
  • Images.jpg, .png, .gif (static images or animated GIFs displayed on screen)
  • Videos.mp4 clips played directly on the overlay

All media files are uploaded through the Media Library in the dashboard.

The !media Command

The primary way viewers trigger media is via the !media command:

!media airhorn
!media poggers
!media fail

Each command name maps to a media file you've configured. Set up your media items in the Media section of the dashboard:

  1. Click Add Media Item.
  2. Upload your file or provide a URL.
  3. Give it a command name (e.g., airhorn).
  4. Set permissions — who can trigger it (everyone, subs only, mods only).
  5. Set a cooldown to prevent spam.

Event-Triggered Media

Media can also play automatically when stream events happen, without needing a chat command. Use the Triggers system to wire events to media:

  • Play a sound when someone subscribes.
  • Show a GIF when a raid happens.
  • Play a clip at the start of a stream.

See Triggers for how to set this up.

Media Settings

SettingDescription
VolumeDefault playback volume (0–100). Can be overridden per item.
Max durationMaximum clip length to prevent excessively long media.
QueueWhether media requests queue up or overlap.
CooldownGlobal cooldown between any media triggers (seconds).

Display Position

When media includes a visual component (image or video), it plays in the position set by the Media widget in the Compositor. Resize and reposition the widget to control where media appears on screen.

Audio-only media plays through the browser source without any visual.

Permissions

Each media item has its own permission setting:

  • Public — any viewer can trigger it.
  • Subscribers only — only subs/members can trigger it.
  • Moderators only — only mods can trigger it.

You can also set a point cost if you have channel points or loyalty points configured.
